At EBF, our doors are always revolving with students flooding in for home games, and heading out to compete across the region. We are honored to have the athletes we do walking our halls and bettering our community. Across the board Tuesday was a mostly great night for EBF; with 3 sports in competition, the majority with podium placements!
EBF XC Takes the Podium with All Four Teams
Tuesday Night was a great night for the EBF Jr. & Sr. High Cross Country Teams. While at Sigourney, all four teams had athletes find their way to the podium, and not by mistake!
"I am proud of everyone's efforts this season, everyone had really bought in over the summer and that is really showing as the foundation that was built for this season. All students ran faster than their previous time; many of them ran 3-4 minutes faster!", remarked EBF XC Head Coach Michael Pilcher.
Final Placements are as follows:
High School Boys: Team Placement - 6th
Garrett Pumphrey - 3rd Place
High School Girls:
Lily Lee - 9th Place
JH Boys:
Mason Courtney - 4th Place
Carter Lenox - 10th Place
JH Girls:
Lacey Wade - 3rd Place
Clara Brink - 4th Place
Mallory Jackson - 6th Place
Rockets fall to the Panthers; 0-3
Although Tuesday Night's matchup against the Knoxville Panthers was a hard fought game, the Rockets fell just short of overtaking the panthers in each of the three sets!
The final scores are as follows:
Set 1: 25-20
Set 2: 25-19
Set 3: 25-22
Looking at our play last night, compared to this past Tuesday's victory against Cardinal, our girls played cleaner, communicated better, and fought hard in tough rallies to score crucial points. Although the victory goes to the Panthers this time, with the improvements we've seen over the past week alone, we look forward to the remainder of the season! Our motto this year is to renew, rebuild, and rise; and our girls have shown us that although not easy, they are up and will rise to meet the challenge.
The Rockets will play at Southeast Polk this Saturday, September 13th, in the Rams Metro Volleyball Classic. The game schedule for Saturday goes as follows:
9AM - EBF v. Waukee Northwest
11AM - EBF v. Urbandale
1PM - EBF v. ADM
For any further questions about Saturday's matchups, please reach out to Gladys Genskow (Gladys.Genskow@rocketsk12.org) or Curt Johnston (Curt.Johnston@rocketsl12.org).
Morrison Earns Second School Record
In Oskaloosa, EBF Freshman Penelope Morrison took first in the 100Y Freestyle. Penelope, who swims for Oskaloosa High School along with her sister Daphanie Morrison, set her second Oskaloosa High School record!
We sat down with Penelope to get some of her thoughts from yesterday's performance;
Q: What was going through your mind as you were in the last lap?
A: "I have to go faster to get the time that I need"
Q: Looking at your records and others, what do you want to accomplish next?
A: "I want to make the records that I already have faster so that they cant get broken again."
Q: To any other girl that is looking at becoming a swimmer, what do you have to say to them?
A: "I'd say to just join swimming because there are a lot of good opportunities that you can get from it! The team bonding is really good, you make a lot of friends, and overall it's a lot of fun!"
Q: Lastly, looking towards your next meet, what is on your mind?
A: "I have to get a PR and win, duh"
Morrison now holds the 100Y Freestyle Record (57.99s), and the 50Y Freestyle Record (26.57s) which was set last week in Boone.
The Oskaloosa High School Girls Swim Team hits the water next at the Williamsburg Girls Swimming Invitational, hosted at Williamsburg High School!
